Sport massage is a crucial component of an athlete's training regimen before, during and after sports events.

The Sports Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA), in partnership with eta College, are excited to offer this in-person short course. 

Join us as we equip you with the massage techniques and knowledge to enhance your skills in injury prevention, recovery, and performance.

What does this course cover?

This 2 month long course is ideal for coaches, athletes and health and fitness professionals. On completion of this course you will have the insight to:

  • Understand the history of massage.
  • Understand the principles and benefits of sport massage.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of injuries and injury management.
  • Plan and prepare for sport massage.
  • Implement safe and effective sport massage, using appropriate methods and techniques.

Frequently asked questions?

On successful completion of this course, you will understand the principles and theory of sport massage and be able to implement a range of sport massage techniques.
Anyone interested in Sport Massage short course can apply but you will need to have prior knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise. If you don’t have prior anatomy and biomechanics knowledge, you will be required to complete these modules through eta’s online portal, before the course begins, at no extra cost.

Sport Massage is a short course recognised and endorsed with 18 CPD points by the Register of Exercise Professionals South Africa (REPSSA). 


Continued professional development (CPD) points are awarded to qualified fitness and professional. Candidates wishing to learn more about massage for their own personal interest (non-credit bearing) will not be endorsed with any CPD points as they are not required to be registered on REPSSA.

On successful completion of this course you will have the confidence and knowledge to work with teams and individuals, including:
