Cycle Strength

Cycle Strong, Conquer Every Mile!

Cycle Strength is an off the bike resistance training programme that is based in the High Performance Centre (HPC) at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA). The programme is designed to cater for any type of rider be it road or mountain bike. The programme is fully periodised and factors in tapering weeks for races that are coming up. It is also designed in 3 parts - Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced, so riders can build on their off the bike cycling strength journey.  The benefit of training at SSISA is that you get access to state of the art high performance facilities while being supervised by qualified Biokineticists.

Introduction to Cycling Strength

 

What to expect:

  • 2 classes per week (1x strength and 1x cross training session)
  • Understand various resistance training concepts and movement patterns specific to cycling performance
  • Structured programme prioritising correct form and technique
  • Supervised environment with only 12 cyclists per class
  • 8-week duration
Intro Cycling

Intermediate Cycling Strength

 

What to expect:

  • 2 classes per week (2x strength sessions)
  • For those who have completed the Introduction to Cycling strength programme
  • Progressive improvement on fundamental movements with an increase in load and intensity
  • Suited to be periodized around various cycling races
  • Year-round programme
Advanced Cycling

Advanced Cycling Strength

 

What to expect:

  • 2 classes per week (2x strength sessions)
  • For those who have progressively developed their load and intensity consistently through the Intermediate Cycling strength programme
  • A comprehensive understanding and competency of more advanced resistance training techniques for cycling
  • Periodized around certain race events in the year with a focus on building strength and power at different stages
  • Year-round programme
